Cloud Computing is an IT revolution that brings with it many advantages. One of the greatest is that software and hardware administration tasks will be reduced to a minimum. This will allow IT professionals the opportunity to change focus andget closer to the business.

As with other technology revolutions there is always some fall out. In this case it is traditional IT department roles and responsibilities that must morph into what businesses now need – or die. Cloud computing will force IT professionals to manage software systems, to understand departmental processes and data requirements and to manage them.

This change in focus will be seen as an opportunity by some IT professionals, as a way of contributing more value byoperating at a strategic level within an organisation. Lifelong learning is an accepted part of keeping pace within the technology sector and the challenge that Cloud Computing presents is just one of many faced and embraced by technology professionals throughout their careers.
